Why Faith, Beauty, and Awe?

Faith--the only way to please God.
Beauty--both descriptive of the life of faith and an attribute of God, who is the sum of all beauty.
Awe--what we feel in his presence, a feeling that should grow and increase the more we know him.

Abraham, Starring Richard Harris

I have mentioned several times in class how I was inspired to teach a series on the life of Abraham after watching the movie Abraham starring Richard Harris and Barbara Hershey. I did a search at YouTube looking for, perhaps, a clip of the movie to post here. Instead of a clip I found the whole movie available. Here it is and it is well worth the time. But be ready. It's three hours long.

First Presbyterian Church, Winnsboro, Texas

First Presbyterian is not only the oldest church in Winnsboro, Texas, but it is also the only Presbyterian church in Wood County. We are a growing congregation sharing the love of Christ to friends, neighbors and the surrounding community. As our pastor likes to say, we are "becoming home for those without a church home" in east Texas. Together in Christ, we at FPC are seeking to live lives of faith and love, learning, living, and sharing the word. We welcome you and invite you to come and grow with us. Our Sunday School begins each Sunday at 9:30 am and we worship together at 11:00 am. Please join us. We would love to have you.

A Blog For Our Sunday School Class

This will become the official blog site for our adult Sunday School class at First Presbyterian in Winnsboro. I will use it to highlight events at our church, place study notes, ideas, thoughts, and perhaps audio/video of the Sunday School lessons from our class, and encourage anyone and everyone to pursue a life of faith, beauty, and awe of God. I hope that it will be both challenging and encouraging.

May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. Amen. (Ephesians 1:17-21 ESV, paraphrased)
